Ettekande kokkuvõte:
In the last decades philosophers have put the use of hypothetical cases (aka "thought experiments") within philosophy under scrutiny. Are the results that we philosophers obtain from contemplating hypothetical scenarios reliable evidence for or against philosophical theories? The debate thus far ignores that the contemplation of thought experiments isn't unique to philosophy. In many areas of the natural sciences (just think of the history of physics and Galilei, Newton or Einstein) thought experiments have been used too. Is there a common methodology between the natural sciences and philosophy? What can we learn from thought experiments in the natural sciences about the use and reliability of thought experiments in philosophy?
