A visiting PhD student in theoretical philosophy

Jaroslav Endrle is a visiting PhD student from the University of Hradec Králové. His visit is funded by the Erasmus+ programme.

Endrle is working on a theory of language function that would make it possible to interpret the theory of distributed cognition and/or the extended mind thesis in terms of the predictive processing framework. He hopes to achieve by this the understanding of mechanisms enabling the various forms of collective action and cognition, the role of artifacts and technologies in our thinking and also the understanding of the impact these phenomena have on the individual mind. More generally, he is interested in pragmatism, its relation to naturalism and its consequences for understanding the classical metaphysical problems relating to the mind. In his previous work, he has been developing a non-cartesian approach to the problem of personal identity and also to the problem of naturalization of consciousness.
