The international master's admission for 2026/2027 has started

Join our international master’s programmes in Semiotics or in Philosophy in Practice at the University of Tartu — a leading research university with a strong international academic community and a long tradition in humanities education.

Applications for master’s studies are open until 15 March 2026.

Prospective applicants are also warmly invited to join our virtual open day on 15 January to learn more about the programmes, admissions process, and student life in Tartu.

Master’s programmes offered

MA in Semiotics

The international Master’s programme in Semiotics focuses on the study of meaning-making, communication, and sign systems across culture, society, and nature.

Students benefit from:

  • a solid grounding in the history, theory, and methods of semiotics,
  • in-depth specialisation in three branches of semiotics: semiotics of culture, sociosemiotics, and biosemiotics, with the flexibility to focus on one or combine several areas,
  • a wide choice of elective courses, including topic- and author-focused seminars, courses taught by visiting professors, and classes exploring emerging research directions,
  • strong analytical and interpretative skills applicable both in academia and beyond.

MA in Philosophy in Practice

The Master’s programme in Philosophy in Practice is a profoundly renewed philosophy curriculum that connects philosophical thinking with real-world challenges and professional contexts.
