We are pleased to invite you all to the Welcome Party on the 7th of September at 7 PM. The place is Club Gutenberg in Aparaaditehas, located at Kastani 42, door 7, floor 4.
The beginning of a new study year is a perfect time to gather together and have a great time. The aim of the party is to foster the adaptation of new students as well as reinforce the connections between those who already know each other.

Throughout the party, there will be an opportunity to buy drinks from the bar as well as take a free pizza and snacks. We strongly encourage all who wish to attend to register as soon as possible by the following link

The Juri Lotman Scholarship Competition 2025: Call for applicants among semioticians and Slavic philologists
The Juri Lotman Fund announces its scholarship contest for graduate students from the University of Tartu, whose research carries on the tradition of Lotman and his school in semiotics and Slavic philology. In 2025, two scholarships of €600 each will be awarded: one to a master’s or doctoral student specialising in Slavic philology and another in semiotics and cultural theory. Submissions for the competition are expected by January 27, 2025. The grantees will be disclosed on Juri Lotman’s birthday, 28 February 2025.
Ruth Rebecca Tietjen will give a talk on existential, social and political loneliness

Dr. Tietjen is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Philosophy at Tilburg University and Pof. Dr. Theda Rehbock’s Philosophy Resident at Susimetsa Philosophicum.
Kadri Simm appointed Professor of Practical Ethics
On October 25, 2024, the University of Tartu Senate appointed Associate Professor of Practical Philosophy, Kadri Simm, as Professor of Practical Ethics. This new professorship is distinguished from practical philosophy and theoretical ethics by its focus and interdisciplinary approach, particularly its integration with social science research methods and applicability. In recent decades, demand for expertise in the field on practical ethics has increased significantly both within the university and in society.
