The University of Tartu and Tallinn Health University of Applied Sciences have strengthened cooperation in intersectoral doctoral studies to support academic succession at the professional higher education institution and enhance its research capacity. In September, the first intersectoral doctoral researcher began their studies in the collaboration between the two institutions.

Each reflects a facet of meaning-making in the contemporary world — and each was explored through the lens of semiotics during the master's thesis defences at the University of Tartu's Department of Semiotics on 30 May 2025.

On 29 and 30 May 2025, students of the English-taught Philosophy MA programme at the University of Tartu defended their final theses, addressing topics that reflect the practical relevance of philosophy — from legislation and medical ethics to the financial sector and experiences of war.

Next academic year, the professorship of liberal arts will be held by poet, children’s author and prosaist Viivi Luik.

On Monday, 3 February, at 4:15 PM, a lecture on medical artificial intelligence will take place in the University of Tartu Delta Study Building (Narva mnt 18-2048). The speakers are Dr Frank Ursin and Dr Cristian Timmermann from Germany. The lecture, titled “Levels of Explicability: How to Overcome Epistemological and Normative Barriers in Medical AI”, is organised by the Centre for Ethics of the University of Tartu, Department of Philosophy, and the Estonian Centre of Excellence in AI (EXAI).
