Guidelines for the appropriate use of electronic devices at the philosophy department

  1. Electronic devices may be used during classes only for course-related purposes explicitly authorised by the lecturer, such as consulting a seminar text or completing a specific assignment.
  2. Meaningful participation in classes requires not only physical but also mental presence. Electronic devices can distract both the user and those around them. Checking social media or messages, or engaging in other activities unrelated to the course, diminishes the benefits of learning and compromises the learning experience. Out of respect for the lecturer and your fellow students, please keep electronic devices out of sight, set them to silent mode during classes and focus on the topic being discussed.
  3. If you need to make an urgent call or send a message during class, please step outside the classroom. If you have a valid reason for using an electronic device during class, such as a medical need or a need for translation assistance, please discuss this with the lecturer at the beginning of the course. Together, we will find an appropriate solution.
