On the 30th and 31st of January 2025, the University of Tartu (Jakobi 2, Tartu) will host a two-day intensive seminar on research ethics for doctoral students from all fields. The workshop will be conducted in English, and participants can earn 1 EAP.
The intensive seminar, titled "Pitfalls and Challenges in Research: A Practical Guide to Research Ethics for Early-Career Researchers," is a joint event organized by the Estonian Doctoral School and the Centre for Ethics of the University of Tartu. The aim is to help doctoral students identify and address ethical issues in research. The seminar will feature research ethics experts who will support and guide young researchers. The interactive workshop will cover various stages of research, from planning to dissemination of results, and discuss potential ethical problems.
As a special guest, Professor Kate Millar from the University of Nottingham, Professor of Applied Bioethics and Director of the Centre for Applied Bioethics, will speak at the seminar. Professor Millar has extensive knowledge in biotechnology assessment, bioethics analysis, animal, agricultural, and food ethics, and public engagement.
The seminar will also be conducted by experts from the Centre for Ethics of the University of Tartu, including Professor Margit Sutrop, Mari-Liisa Parder, Kristi Lõuk, and Anu Tammeleht. Additionally, field-specific advisors on good research practice, Professor Kadri Simm, Kairi Kreegipuu, Raul Kangro, and Andres Soosaar, will participate. Marten Juurik, Head of the Research Ethics Division at the Estonian Research Council, will also be present as an expert.
