Speech by Rector of the University of Tartu Professor Toomas Asser at the ceremony and concert dedicated to the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia on 21 February 2025.

University of Tartu’s philosophers received funding from the Estonian Research Council for the project “Imagination in Cognition: Contemporary and Ancient Perspectives”. The five-year project brings together contemporary and Ancient Greek perspectives on imagination to better understand its diverse roles in human cognition. The project is led by Uku Tooming, with research team members Roomet Jakapi, Toomas Lott, and Riin Sirkel.

From 10 to 16 February, the University of Tartu will have a thematic week for Women in Science, aiming to underline the role of women and girls in science, break gender stereotypes and encourage women to pursue a career in science. During the week, a discussion on ensuring equal opportunities is held, and the university’s gender statistics are presented. It is also possible to take a curator’s tour of the exhibition in the university’s museum and see a travelling exhibition about astronomers.

On 21 February at 14, university members were invited to the ceremony and concert dedicated to the 107th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia in the university’s assembly hall.

The 2024 Christmas card was created by Elise Nigul, a prop and stage designer and alumna of Viljandi Culture Academy of the University of Tartu.

Come celebrate with us the beginning of higher education in Estonian!

1 December marks 105 years from the opening of the Estonian-language University of Tartu. Traditional anniversary events will be held on that occasion.

On 25 October, the 392nd anniversary of the founding of the University of Tartu is celebrated.

Starting from 16 August, all staff and students of the university will be able to test the virtual assistant on the University of Tartu IT wiki page, which will provide support in solving IT problems based on existing guides. The trial period will last a couple of months, during which the Information Technology Office will be able to assess the quality of the virtual assistant service.
