Duties and responsibilities
- Research in the semiotics of culture and semiotic studies of Estonian culture, its cultural space and mediation processes.
- Directing and developing the professorship of semiotics of culture, ensuring its financing, supervising involved academic staff.
- Planning and arranging the teaching at all levels of higher education, designing study programmes and syllabi in one’s courses. Supervising students at all levels.
- The development of the Estonian specialist terminology in the semiotics of culture, participation in national and international academic organisations, popularisation of the field.
- Activities related to the management and institutional development of the university.
- Professional development to enhance the skills necessary for these activities.
Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification.
Required experience
- Experience in semiotic research of Estonian culture.
- The ability to teach at all levels of higher education and have knowledge of modern teaching methods and learning environments.
- Previous teaching experience at least at the first two levels of higher education is required, incl. effective supervision of master’s and doctoral students.
- Experience in compiling teaching aids and materials for institutions of higher education.
- The ability to carry out and lead research in the field of the semiotics of culture and supervise academic staff.
- Internationally recognised research equivalent to at least three doctoral theses in total (and research in the past five years in a volume equivalent to at least 1.5 doctoral theses).
- Success in applying for research funding and accomplishing research grants in the past five years.
- Experience in team or project management.
- International experience, participation in the work of the international community of the specialisation.
- Experience in popularisation and participation in activities related to the promotion and application of semiotics on a national or international level.
Required language skills
Very good command of English required. The ability to speak Estonian is not required at the time of application, but according to the Language Act, academic staff with foreign citizenship working in Estonia must have acquired at least B1-level Estonian language skills after five years of work. This requirement will be added to the contract. The Centre for Professional Development offers foreigners and their family members the opportunity to participate in Estonian language courses.

From 3100 € / per month
