What are different aspects of the sixth mass extinction?
The international conference "Traces of Extinction: Species Loss, Solastalgia, and Semiotics of Recovery" held on 5–7 June 2024 at UT Oecologicum (J. Liivi 2, Tartu) sheds light on the various aspects of biodiversity loss and discusses cultural, subjective, and semiotic approaches to understanding species extinction. Registration is open until 23 May.
The exhibition "Poetics of Survival" brings us the Umwelten of animals
A multidisciplinary student exhibition emerged under the leadership of Timo Maran, Professor of Ecosemiotics and Environmental Humanities, as a result of an interdisciplinary research project and a semiotics master's course. The course combined semiotics, natural sciences, and methods of creative inquiry. The exhibition, opened on 9 May, presents the Umwelten of animals to the public. It is also part of the Prima Vista and the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 programmes and will remain open until 20 June.
Conference "Traces of Extinction: Species Loss, Solastalgia, and Semiotics of Recovery"
The conference takes place 5–7 June 2024 at the Oecologicum of the University of Tartu, Juhan Liivi 2, Tartu. The sixth mass species extinction is one of the greatest ecological threats of our time. This conference focuses on cultural, subjective and semiotic approaches to extinction.
Exhibition “Tartu – Rich in Research” presents success stories from the history of science
The exhibition shows the discoveries of dozens of University of Tartu researchers that have significantly impacted global advancements in science and helped us better understand our surroundings.

Call for Papers to the Conference  "Traces of Extinction: Species Loss, Solastalgia, and Semiotics of Recovery" 5-7 June 2024
Interested parties are welcome to submit their abstracts of max. 300 words by 1 December 2023.
Public discussion "How to involve other species?"
10th May at 12:00 at Tartu Literature House (Vanemuise 19). The discussion is a pre-event of the "Poetics of Survival" project, which is part of the Prima Vista literary festival.
